BREATH OF FREEDOM

Creative Consultant
A SENSE OF FREEDOM

The “Breath of Freedom” documentary tells the story of the Afro-American GIs who were stationed in Germany at the end of the Second World War. Accepted by the Germans as representatives of a victorious power, for many of the Afro-American GIs it was their first experience of a society without the racial segregation that was legally entrenched in the southern states and practised throughout America.

EYEWITNESS REPORTS

BROADVIEW, one of the leading independent German film production companies, accompanied former GIs, civil rights campaigners and prominent Afro-American eyewitnesses such as Colin Powell and John Lewis on their trip down memory lane. Directed by Dag Freyer and produced by Leopold Hoesch.

ILLUSTRATION AND ANIMATION

Robert advised BROADVIEW on the production of the animation sequences and assisted Parasol Island with the creative production process.
